About the Journal

1. Aims and Scope

Isagoge - Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (eISSN 2763-7123) is a scholarly journal that aims to advance knowledge and understanding in the field of humanities and social sciences. Isagoge is published online by Telos Publicações e Serviços Ltda with open access and peer-reviewed policies.

Please consult the editorial policies governing submission, review and publication in the journal.

The journal's main objectives are:

  1. To promote and disseminate innovative research and ideas in the humanities and social sciences.
  2. To foster interdisciplinary collaboration and exchange of knowledge across diverse disciplines within the humanities and social sciences.
  3. To support and mentor early career researchers and emerging scholars in the field.
  4. To provide a venue for the critical examination and discussion of current trends and debates in the humanities and social sciences.
  5. To contribute to the advancement of knowledge and inform public policy and decision-making by offering new perspectives and understanding of the world, human society, and culture.

Isagoge's focus and scope encompass a broad range of humanities and social sciences disciplines, including but not limited to history, literature, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, political science, cultural studies, law, and related interdisciplinary fields. The journal invites submissions of studies that use various research designs, such as experimental, descriptive, inferential analysis, correlational, observational, action research, and case studies analyzed with qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods techniques.

Articles are not limited to any research method, methodology, or theoretical framework, but should be based on rigorous analyses that present original and relevant contributions to the humanities and social sciences. Manuscripts should carefully describe the methods used and justify their appropriateness to the research questions that are posed in the article.

The journal welcomes original articles, review articles, book reviews and translations, in accordance with the author guidelines and their relevance to its aims and scope.

Original articles must offer a substantiated contribution of their own. Review articles must state their objective, source-selection criteria and analytical approach, according to the type of review adopted. Book reviews must provide a critical appraisal of the work examined. Translations must have scholarly relevance and permission from the rights holders where required.

Undergraduate and postgraduate monographs, dissertations and theses are not accepted in their original format; articles derived from them must meet the journal’s requirements. Educational proposals and technical notes are not standalone submission categories.

All articles are viewable immediately upon publication. As an open-access journal, there are no fees or subscriptions necessary to access any article published in Isagoge, as described in our Open Acess Policy.

2. Publication frequency

Isagoge has adopted continuous publication since 2023. Articles are published as they complete the editorial process and are assigned to the corresponding volume and issue.

3. Estimated times currently in our journal

Estimated time frames for manuscript submissions in Isagoge are as follows:

  • Reception and desk rejection: papers will be reviewed for initial eligibility within approximately 1 week of submission.
  • Evaluation: if the paper passes the initial review, it will then be subject to further evaluation, which can take approximately 2-3 months.
  • Publication of accepted papers: if the paper is accepted after evaluation, it can be published within approximately 1-2 months.

4. Preservation and Identification of Information

Information on digital preservation is provided in the preservation policy. The OAI-PMH protocol enables metadata harvesting and interoperability; this function is distinct from preserving the files.

Authors retain copyright. Articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). The licence permits sharing for noncommercial purposes with attribution and compliance with its terms; it does not permit sharing adaptations. Third-party materials may be subject to separate conditions identified in the article.

Please also consult the copyright and licensing policy.

5. Paper Submission Process and Editor's Rejection

All submissions must be made through the journal's Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Submissions received via email will not be accepted.

Submissions must follow the author guidelines and use the official templates, with both anonymous and identified versions supplied. Failure to meet these requirements may result in return for correction or rejection during editorial screening.

Previously rejected manuscripts may be resubmitted only with the editor’s express authorization and under the conditions specified by the editor. Authorization does not imply acceptance or waive further assessment.

All authors and coauthors must be identified at submission, with complete details. No new authors or coauthors may be added once the review stage has begun. Until copyediting is completed, corrections or updates to the details of authors and coauthors already identified at submission may be requested and are subject to editorial verification; this does not permit adding people to the authorship. Once this stage is completed, routine updates to author details are not accepted. Errors affecting the integrity of a published article will be handled through the correction or retraction procedure, without adding authors after publication.

During the initial stage, the editor will verify that the submission meets the required conditions and conduct a preliminary review of the paper's quality with regard to writing style, sections, citation format, and other relevant aspects. Modifications may be requested, or, in some cases, the proposal may be rejected (desk rejection).

The outcome of this stage will be communicated to the submitting author. If the paper is deemed to meet the initial conditions, the process of identifying suitable reviewers will commence.

6. Peer review process

Our journal employs a blind peer review strategy, where two external reviewers evaluate the submissions without knowing the identity of the authors. Reviewers are selected anonymously to maintain objectivity. Please refer to the Peer Review Process section for more information.

The reviewers provide a summary of the reasons for their evaluation, but their decision is not exhaustive. The peer review evaluation is only one factor in this decision, and the publication is contingent on all observations and corrections being made. The responsible editor makes the editorial decision, taking into account the reviews and the journal’s requirements. A reasoned request for reconsideration may be submitted on grounds of factual or procedural error, or relevant evidence not previously considered. Requests should be sent to the editorial contact and will, whenever possible, be assessed by someone other than the person who made the original decision. The reasoned response will be recorded and communicated to the requester.

Reconsideration, corrections and integrity concerns are handled under the ethics policy. Please also consult the policies on plagiarism and AI/LLM use.
