Terms of Service

1. Terms

By accessing the website at JOURNAL OF TELEOLOGICAL SCIENCE (JTS) you are agreeing to be bound by these terms of service, and all applicable laws and regulations, and agree that you are responsible for compliance with any applicable local laws. If you do not agree with any of these terms, you are prohibited from using or accessing this site. Published articles are made available under the journal’s copyright and licensing policy. Other website elements and third-party materials are subject to their applicable conditions.

Institutional communication between the Publisher and authors is conducted by email. For updates on the editorial workflow, the journal uses the primary contact author’s email address registered during manuscript submission. Authors must provide a valid address and keep it up to date in the system. The Publisher is not responsible for communication failures resulting from an invalid, non-existent or outdated address supplied by the author.

2. User licence

Authors retain copyright. Articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). The licence permits sharing for noncommercial purposes with attribution and compliance with its terms; it does not permit sharing adaptations. Third-party materials may be subject to separate conditions identified in the article.

3. Nature of the content and limits of warranty

Articles are made available for research and scholarly communication. Publication and editorial assessment do not guarantee that articles are free from errors or that applying their content will produce particular results. Authors are responsible for their contributions, and the Publisher for the legal and editorial obligations attributable to it. Reuse is governed by the copyright and licensing policy; integrity matters follow the ethics policy.

4. Website operation and limits of liability

The Publisher does not guarantee uninterrupted website operation, complete absence of technical faults or continuous availability of external services. Temporary interruptions, maintenance and platform changes do not, by themselves, constitute failure to perform the publication service.

Publication does not guarantee academic, professional, commercial or financial outcomes from using the articles. The Publisher does not assume responsibility for decisions users make based on published content, or for the operation of equipment, connections and services under those users’ exclusive control.

The availability of copies in repositories, indexing databases and other independent services depends on their respective operators. Access to and continuity of the archive maintained by the Publisher follow the preservation policy.

5. Updating information and correcting errors

The Publisher may correct errors and update institutional, administrative and technical information on the website. Scholarly content is published in the context of its date and is not subject to continuous updating. Corrections, retractions and other changes to the scholarly record follow the ethics policy, with the measure taken identified. Errors may be reported through the journal’s contact channel.

6. Links

JTS has not reviewed all of the sites linked to its website and is not responsible for the contents of any such linked site. The inclusion of any link does not imply endorsement by JTS of the site. Use of any such linked website is at the user's own risk.

7. Updating the terms

Updates to these terms will be published on this page with the revision date. Conditions applicable to new agreements will be provided before acceptance. Updating the website does not unilaterally change the price, scope or rights under existing agreements, or revoke licences previously granted for articles. Contractual amendments are subject to the information, consent and validity requirements of applicable law.

8. Advertising and affiliate links

The journal’s website may display promotional links from affiliate programmes. Purchases made through these links may generate commissions for the publisher or editors, helping to support editorial activities. Authors do not receive these commissions.

The editors participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, through which they may receive commissions on purchases made through the corresponding links.

Promotional links must be identified and distinguished from scientific content. Advertising, commissions and other revenue do not influence manuscript selection, peer review or editorial decisions.

9. Fees, cancellation and refunds

The amounts, payment conditions for the APC and optional formatting service, and cancellation and refund procedures are set out in the fees policy. Expressly agreed specific contractual conditions also apply, subject to rights provided by applicable law. Payment does not influence assessment or the editorial decision.

10. Completed publication service

Publication of the approved final version of the article and its availability in open access constitute completion of the principal performance of the contracted editorial service.

Once this principal performance has been duly completed, a subsequent mere change of mind, a change in the authors’ preferences regarding the approved content, or a request to withdraw the publication does not, by itself, entitle them to a refund of the APC. The same applies to retraction resulting from error or misconduct attributable to the authors, provided that no failure attributable to the Publisher provides grounds for reimbursement.

Rights provided by law in cases of duplicate payment, defective service, failure to fulfil the offer or any other statutory ground for reimbursement remain protected. Completion of the principal performance does not discharge legal responsibilities or subsequent commitments expressly undertaken. Access to and continuity of the archive are governed by the preservation policy, without a guarantee of perpetual hosting or indefinite operation of the Publisher.

11. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by Brazilian law. The courts of the judicial district of Niterói, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, shall have jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms, subject to applicable statutory rules on jurisdiction.
