Author Guidelines

General Guidelines

The submission must be made by one of the (co)authors through their own OJS account. All authors must be registered at initial submission and approve the submission. Include the contribution statement required by the CRediT policy in the identified version; exclude names and identifying statements from the anonymous version. Authorship and contributions (CRediT)

Submissions must be unique, original and should not have been published earlier or be under consideration for publication while being evaluated for JTS.

Contributions (articles, translations or reviews) to JTS should be written in English, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian.

Contributions should be sent exclusively by the JTS’s website using its electronic publishing system (OJS).

JTS strongly recommends that authors thoroughly check the content of the article before submitting it for evaluation for publication.

In the identified version and OJS metadata, provide every author’s and coauthor’s full name, completed or ongoing qualification, complete institutional affiliation, country, ORCID URL and email; identify the corresponding author. Details in both sources must match.

Institutional communication between the Publisher and authors is conducted by email. For updates on the editorial workflow, the journal uses the primary contact author’s email address registered during manuscript submission. Authors must provide a valid address and keep it up to date in the system. The Publisher is not responsible for communication failures resulting from an invalid, non-existent or outdated address supplied by the author.

Authors' duties

General guidelines: authors of papers that refer to original research must provide an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Additional data should be accurately represented in the paper. The paper should contain sufficient detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or intentionally inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Originality and plagiarism: authors must ensure that works are entirely original and if they use the work and/or texts of others that this is properly cited. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical editorial behavior and is unacceptable.

Multiple or redundant publication: an author should not publish manuscripts that essentially describe the same research in more than one journal. Publishing the same article in more than one journal without informing the editors and obtaining their consent constitutes unethical editorial behavior and is unacceptable.

About sources: the work of other authors should always be acknowledged. Authors should cite publications that were important in determining the nature of the work reported. Information obtained privately, such as in a conversation, correspondence, or discussion with a third party, should not be used or reported without the explicit written permission of the source. Information obtained through confidential services, such as manuscript referees or grant applications, should not be used without the explicit written permission of the author of the work involved in these services.

Authorship is limited to those who made a significant contribution to the conception, development, analysis or interpretation of the work and accept responsibility for their contribution. All authors must approve the final version and agree to submission.

Assignment of a CRediT role does not, by itself, confer authorship. Funding, administrative support or technical services alone do not justify authorship. Contributions that do not meet the authorship criteria must be acknowledged with the permission of those involved.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest: all authors must disclose in the manuscript any financial or other conflicts that may influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.

Fundamental errors in published work: when an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work it is the author's obligation to immediately inform the journal editor or the Journal Editors and cooperate with the editor to correct the article.

Using software and submitting similarity or AI/LLM detection reports are optional. Authors are not required to purchase these services or provide a report to submit an article. Available reports may be uploaded as supplementary documents; the editorial team may consider them if their origin and authenticity can be verified.

Reports, percentages and automated classifications are auxiliary indicators: they do not, on their own, establish plagiarism, improper AI use or an omitted declaration, and do not determine automatic rejection. The editor conducts a human and contextual assessment of passages and sources, considering quotations, references, common expressions and the nature of the research; substantive concerns are communicated to authors for clarification. The declarations and other obligations set out in the Plagiarism Policy and the GenAI/LLM Policy remain applicable.

All authors and coauthors must be identified at initial submission. New authors or coauthors may not be added once peer review begins. Until copyediting is completed, corrections to the details of authors already identified may be requested, subject to editorial verification; this does not authorize adding people to the authorship.

Changes to author order or declared contributions require justification and the agreement of those involved. Omissions, inappropriate authorship and disputes will be investigated under the ethics policy and may prevent the submission from proceeding. After publication, errors will be addressed through correction or retraction procedures, without routine reopening of the authorship registration.

Submission, peer review and access to articles are free of charge. After acceptance and before publication, an APC of USD 100 applies to international authors or BRL 500 to Brazilian authors, as set out in the fee policy. The editor offers authors the opportunity to resubmit their article using the official template without a formatting charge. Authors who prefer to engage the publisher for this work may choose an optional formatting service costing USD 25 for international authors or BRL 125 for Brazilian authors. APCs, optional services and commissions do not influence editorial decisions.

Required templates and files

Two .docx versions of the same article with matching scholarly content are required: an anonymous version for peer review and an identified version exclusively for the editorial team. Use the official templates: anonymous template · identified template.

Remove names, affiliations, ORCID identifiers, emails, identifying acknowledgements and authorship details in document properties, comments and tracked changes from the anonymous version. Retain necessary references and impersonal self-citations.

Use Latin Modern Roman 12-point body text, A4 paper, 3 cm margins, 1.5 line spacing and a 1.25 cm first-line indent. Abstracts and keywords: 11-point, single-spaced; footnotes: 10-point; long quotations: 11-point, single-spaced, with a 4 cm left indent.

Provide uppercase original and translated titles and subtitles, where applicable; use bold for the original and italics without bold for the translation. Include abstracts and keywords in both languages: English for a non-English original; Portuguese for an English original. Each abstract must not exceed 15 lines. Remove instructions and alternative labels from the templates before submission.

Articles that do not meet these requirements or lack either required version may be returned for correction or rejected during editorial screening, following editorial assessment.

Article identification and referencing

Since volume 2 (2022), the journal has assigned articles a unique electronic identifier (e-ID or e-location ID), consisting of the letter e followed by the submission number. Use this identifier instead of a page range in the bibliographic reference. For direct quotations or to locate passages, cite the internal PDF page where appropriate. The e-ID identifies the article; internal pagination locates passages and is not part of the identifier or a determinant of article order in the table of contents. For articles preceding the adoption of e-IDs, retain the published bibliographic details.
