Plagiarism Policy

The journal does not permit plagiarism, improper reuse of an author’s own content or simultaneous submissions to other journals. Authors must check the originality of their work, attribution of sources and identification of previously published content.

The editorial team may use similarity tools to support its analysis. Authors are not required to purchase software or submit a similarity report. Authors who use these tools and have reports available may upload them as supplementary documents during submission. The editorial team will consider these reports in its internal similarity assessment, provided their origin and authenticity can be verified. Submitting a report does not replace contextual human assessment or determine the editorial decision on its own.

Similarity reports and percentages do not, on their own, establish plagiarism or determine automatic rejection. The editor examines the passages and their sources, considering quotations, references, common expressions and the nature of the research. Substantive concerns are communicated to the authors for clarification. Decisions are based on contextual, reasoned human assessment.

Where a manuscript is rejected for problems with originality or source attribution, any resubmission requires the editor’s express authorization and compliance with the conditions specified by the editor, including correction of the identified problems. Authorization does not imply acceptance or waive further assessment. Where appropriate, an integrity investigation may continue independently of resubmission.

Anti-plagiarism software

The journal recommends that authors consider the following software and their reports, on an optional basis: Grammarly, Plagiarisma, Plagium, Plagius, Turnitin.

Process for identifying and handling allegations of research misconduct

The editor of JTS, as well as the publisher responsible for its publication, will take reasonable steps that comprise available technological and personal expertise to identify and block the publication of manuscripts where research misconduct, containing citation manipulation, plagiarism, and falsification/fabrication of data, among others, has arisen.

The journal uses COPE guidance and flowcharts as references for the contextual assessment of allegations of misconduct. This reference does not imply COPE membership. Procedures for investigation, reconsideration and post-publication measures are described in the journal’s publication ethics policy.

Substantiated complaints and allegations should be sent to the editorial contact. The editor records the matter, checks for conflicts of interest, examines the evidence and seeks responses from the parties where appropriate, allowing a reasonable time to respond. If the editor has a conflict of interest, an independent person is assigned to handle the matter. The reasoned decision is recorded and communicated to the parties. Depending on the nature and seriousness of the case, a correction, expression of concern or retraction may be issued, with a public notice and preservation of the article record. Substantiated post-publication comments may be forwarded to the authors for a response.

The responsible editor makes the editorial decision, taking into account the reviews and the journal’s requirements. A reasoned request for reconsideration may be submitted on grounds of factual or procedural error, or relevant evidence not previously considered. Requests should be sent to the editorial contact and will, whenever possible, be assessed by someone other than the person who made the original decision. The reasoned response will be recorded and communicated to the requester.
